Tilly's Myxomatosis Journey

THIS WEBSITE IS REGULARLY UPDATED SO PLEASE RE-VISIT VERY SOON!

This website has been created to offer hope to domestic rabbit owners who routinely vaccinate their pets against myxomatosis (as well as VHD) but whose pet rabbit is unfortunate enough to contract this awful virus anyway.  If you need any official medical advice please contact your vet at the earliest opportunity - this website is here to support those whose rabbit has already been diagnosed as having the disease.

In September 2008 one of my bunnies, Tilly, was diagnosed with myxomatosis.  She had been vaccinated every six months, along with my other bunnies, but for whatever reason developed a severe form of the virus.  At one point it was suggested to me that it may be necessary to have her put to sleep, depending upon how well she responded to treatment.  At times I was convinced that I would never see her run around and play outside again with her beloved Fester (see photos!)  However I am pleased to say that I was proved wrong and that, whilst she has a little lasting damage, she is now ok.  With a lot of care it is possible to nurse a rabbit 'back from the brink' and, although some of the photos that follow are not pretty, I felt that it was the best way to show just how bad she got and would demonstrate to other rabbit owners that, no matter how bad things look, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Tilly has now recovered and lives indoors permanently, enjoying the space in our bedroom with her Fester.  Here is her journey ......
